lens (shape)

A lens is a two-dimensional shape formed by joining two convex arcs.
In the decorative arts, most lenses are symmetrical, and are often a specific type of lens called the vesica piscis (shape).

Examples of 3 different lenses. Each is formed by connecting two arcs (which are segments of the outside of a circle). The 1st and 3rd examples are "asymmetric lenses". The middle example is formed of two identical arcs, making it a "symmetrical lens".

Notes on use:

  • This tag should only be used for the two-dimensional shape. For objects with actual lenses (e.g. telescopes, magnifying glasses etc.), just tag as lens.
