The Julio-Claudian period spans from 27 BC - 68 AD. It covers the early years of the Early Imperial Roman period, and is defined by the rule of the first five emperors of Rome: Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero. All five emperors came from the gens Julia and gens Claudia families.
