A ceremonial weapon is any object which resembles a weapon, but was not created to be used in actual combat. The weapon may be functional (e.g. a ceremonial_gun may actually fire) but typically, the decoration and precious material used to manufacture these objects renders them too heavy or weak to be be practical in warfare.

Ceremonial swords are common; they appear in the crown jewels of most monarchies. Ceremonial swords were also often created as gifts to allied heads of state.

    Usage notes

    • Just because a weapon is heavily decorated, does not mean it is ceremonial. The decision to apply this tag should be based on museum descriptions or the object's history.
