Terracotta kylix (drinking cup)

In the manner of Arkesilas Painter
ca. 550 BCE

One of the twelve labors that Herakles, greatest of the Greek heroes, had to perform for his master, King Eurystheus, was the capture of a wild Cretan bull. Here, the hero rushes at the beast, while a siren perches above on a branch.
