Object Description:
Bronze Age ceremonial hat (‘Berlin Gold Hat’), crafted from a single piece of seamlessly hammered gold sheet and decorated with circular motifs using the repoussé technique. The crown is conically domed and features a wide, all-round brim. The brim and crown are reinforced with a flat bronze band. Twisted bronze wire runs along the outer edge of the brim. The arrangement of the ornamentation on the crown and brim of the ceremonial hat is interpreted as a representation of a calendar system used to calculate the differences between the solar and lunar years and to predict lunar eclipses.

Objektbeschreibung:
Bronzezeitlicher Zeremonialhut („Berliner Goldhut“), gefertigt aus einem Stück nahtlos getriebenem Goldblech und mit Kreisornamenten in Repousse-Technik verziert. Kalotte kegelförmig überhöht und mit breiter umlaufender Krempe. Krempe und Kalotte durch flaches Bronzeband verstärkt. An der Krempe außen tordierter Bronzedraht.
Die Anordnung der Ornamentik auf Kalotte und Krempe des Zeremonialhutes wird als Darstellung eines Kalendersystems gedeutet, mit dem sich die Verschiebungen zwischen Sonnen- und Mondjahr berechnen und Mondfinsternisse voraussagen lassen.
