The Battle of Karari (2 Sept., 1898) saw the defeat of Mahdist forces at the hands of the Anglo-Egyptian Army under H.H. Kitchener. This image shows the battlefield photographed in 1919.
It should be noted the Uthman Shaykh al-Din was not killed in this battle, but died imprisoned in 1900, see relevant wiki entry.
