Coffee pot belonging to Amir Wad El-Nigomi

Brian McMorrow photographs a coffee pot (jabana) attributed to amir Abd al-Rahman w. al-Nujumi (d. 1889). Khalifa House Museum, Omdurman, 2009.

This coffee pot is prime example of a jabana, the typical "round, shiny Sudanese coffee pot." The jabanas form gave its name to the popular clean-shaven haircut of the Mahdist period (which al-Nujumi himself wore), see: Griselda El Tayib, Regional Folk Costumes of the Sudan (2017), 111; Robert S. Kramer, Holy City on the Nile (2010), 188 n 8.
