Terracotta lekythos (oil flask)

Resembles rather early work of the Achilles Painter
ca. 460–450 BCE

Poseidon pursuing woman

Poseidon's identity is established by his very businesslike trident, which occupies the center of the vase. The seriousness of his pursuit is indicated by the way in which his hand grasps the woman's wrist. This is a traditional gesture of possession and, again, it is given prominence in the composition.
